Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about Pearls probiotics – click each question to see the answer.
How do I know I need probiotics?
Occasional gas, diarrhea or constipation: With low counts of healthy bacteria there can be an increase in unhealthy bacteria, causing occasional gas, diarrhea and constipation.
Taking prescription medications: The use of antibiotics can affect your intestinal balance. When this balance is off, digestion is poor, resulting in fatigue and lack of energy.† Antibiotics may also affect yeast levels in the body.
B-vitamin depletion: B-vitamins support many functions in your body including metabolizing fats and proteins and supporting energy, healthy nerves, skin and hair. To properly absorb these beneficial vitamins, you need healthy levels of active cultures in your system.†
Bad breath: Active culture levels affect how food digests. Partially digested food can cause your system to produce gas and bad breath may result.
Can’t I just eat some yogurt?
Yogurt is an excellent source of probiotics, but it’s not for everyone. Some people can’t tolerate dairy, and others simply don’t enjoy the taste. Plus, there are questions about the actual probiotic count found in yogurt products. The National Yogurt Association (NYA) has established criteria for products that carry the “Live & Active Culture” seal. While the probiotic count is set at the time of manufacture, this “time” has not been well defined (i.e., before or after fermentation?, before or after packaging?). Either process may require high temperatures that potentially damage the fragile probiotic bacteria.
Acidophilus Pearls™ active cultures a perfect solution. They offer the goodness of yogurt without the fat, sugar or calories. Plus, the benefits of Acidophilus Pearls, or any of the Pearls line of supplements, don’t disappear because they encounter a little stomach acid. That’s because these friendly bacteria are protected by triple-layer, True Delivery™ Technology.
Because of this protection, Pearl capsules move through your intestinal tract unharmed to deliver up to nine times more active cultures than other products.† They support the growth of beneficial microflora where you need it most, to help you digest food, and strengthen your immune system.†
What’s the big deal about True Delivery™ Technology, anyway?
The True Delivery™ Technology protects the microflora from stomach acids and releases them undamaged intact in the intestine.† It’s a pretty amazing feat—after all, your stomach contains gastric acid levels that are roughly a million times more acid than water! Other products in standard gelatin capsules don’t stand a chance against stomach acid. With these products the healthy active cultures you want are killed in the stomach, never making it to your intestines. The probiotics in Pearls™ supplements survive these harsh conditions and deliver the healthy flora where you need it.†
Even on the shelf or at home, other probiotic supplements are affected greatly by heat, air, and light, and need to be refrigerated just to remain viable. This lack of stability affects the microflora, which means you could be getting less of everything--less active and less healthy bacteria, and of course, fewer benefits. Each member of the Pearls™ family of probiotic supplements are shelf stable and the unique capsule protects the microflora.
Are the probiotics you include in the formulas readily used by the body?
Yes, they are indigenous to the human gastrointestinal tract, and as such, they more readily adapt to and colonize the gastrointestinal tract.†
Where do the bacteria in Pearls™ come from?
The strains in each Pearls product are harvested via a highly controlled fermentation process, then purified, grown to large numbers, and concentrated to high doses.
The exact substance on which they are grown is proprietary, so we have to keep that to ourselves. However, suffice to say that amazing efforts go into the research just to find the optimal blend of nutrients which yields the strongest and healthiest bacteria. Understandably, in order to keep this research from being duplicated by other companies, we do not disclose the exact nutrient base on which the bacteria are grown.
How do the bacteria live in the Pearls™ capsules? Is there any food for them inside?
The bacteria are in a state of suspended animation. They are dry enough that all biological processes are in a resting state. Once consumed, they rehydrate and biological processes including growth and reproduction resume. So a food source in the capsule is not necessary.
